Young Birder (1 Viewer)

Hello all, I just joined the FB group jocotoco wanderings. Are any of you guys members?

I've been a member for over a year now. I used to be much more active, but it's not as fun as it used to be, at least for me. I wouldn't hesitate in suggesting a join, though.

BTW, year list for me is at 220, after lifers Virginia Rail and (now ex-)nemesis Brown Creeper, plus FOY Marsh Wrens(and lots of them!).

Finally got Waxwing on the yearlist (209) on a short trip into Falmouth to see the growing flock of 5 birds (7 previously in the day). They're not very common down here in Cornwall, relative to the rest of the UK so glad to add them to my recently started county list.

Cheers,

Up to 226, with a cracking female Desert Wheatear at Rattray Head today, very obliging as pics demonstrate. Been slow progress in the last month or so; I imagine that things will be very tricky from here, though seeing out the year in Somerset could produce one or two nice things late on.

No one seems to have posted in here for a while so thought I'd bring the thread back on the first page. Had a brilliant day twitching the Pacific Diver at Marazion and eventually connected with the bird after a 6 hour search! See my blog for a full account of the day. The year list is now on 212.

Cheers,

Really great morning birding at Abbottsbury and Portland in Dorset.
On British year list:
172. Long-tailed Duck- two at Abbottsbury Swannery
173. Water Pipit- one on the shore at Ferrybridge
174. Velvet Scoter- two in Portland Harbour
175. Great Northern Diver- one in Portland Harbour

Also short-eared owl, snow bunting and black redstart very close. What a morning!

Congrats on some good birds guys, particularly Samuel; fab bird and a decent account on your blog. Sorry for lack of activity on here, like a lot of us I have made the transition to the active Facebook group. However a new yearlist competition will start again on here in 2013, and as is the tradition I will combine everyone's birds to make a total young birders yearlist before the year end.

I this the Jocotoco Wnaderings group or another one of which I am not yet aware of?

It's the British version. I'm in both but Jocotoco is easily the best for Americans. If you do want to join "Next Generation Birders", send me a PM on here with your Facebook details and I'll add you to it.

Sam

Not so fast with finishing the yearlist still some good birds to add, including Cirl Buntings down in Cornwall Lesser Yellowlegs in Devon and Slavonian Grebe. Just came back to Herts for the holidays today. Had the best birthday present I could ask for, a trip to Queen Mother Reservoir for the very confiding Buff-bellied! The past few days of birding/twitching have been great. Year list now on 216

Not done for the year either! A couple of rather feral species from the south east:
176. Egyptian Goose
177. Ring-necked Parakeet

172. Greater White-fronted Goose
173. Bean Goose
174. Little Gull
175. Ruddy Shelduck
176. Black Woodpecker
178. Red Crossbill
179. Woodcock
180. Redwing
181. Northern Harrier
182. Caspian Gull
