Identification
15 cm (6 in)
Yellow, black throat edged with rust, face, and bill, and variable black mottling on the back. Female - upperparts are olive-grey with dusky brown streaks; the underparts are pale yellow, whiter on the belly and greyer on the flanks.
The juvenile is similar but duller.
Distribution
East Africa, eastern Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya and northeastern Tanzania.

Subspecies
Clements regards this as a monotypic species [1].
Habitat
Savanna, bush, agricultural land, and towns.
Behaviour
It builds a spherical nest of grass, with a short entrance tube opening sidewasys or downward. 4 deep blue eggs are laid.
