Identification

  • Upperparts barred black and chestnut
  • Iridescent green and violet neck
  • Long tail

Asia: China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sundas

Habitat

Boreal forest and moist lowland forests.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes fruits, seeds and berries.

Breeding

The nest is a large platform of twigs; the single egg, which is slightly glossy or cream, sometimes has a small number of olive-yellow speckles and spots, is incubated for 16 days; the young fledging 19 days later.
