37–41 cm (14½-16 in)
- Buff forehead and throat
- Pinkish-grey crown
- Green ear-coverts and nape
- Upperparts barred black and chestnut
- Iridescent green or purplish-pink neck
- Long tail
Distribution
Asia: China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sundas

Habitat
Dense evergreen forest and secondary jungle.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet consists of fruits, seeds, berries acorns, shoots, small drupes and buds.
Breeding
The nest is a large platform of twigs; the single egg, which is slightly glossy or cream, sometimes has a small number of olive-yellow speckles and spots, is incubated for 16 days; the young fledging 19 days later.
