Nigrita bicolor

Identification

Length 12 cm. Underparts are rich mahogany, upperparts slate-grey (western birds) or grey-brown.

Similar Species

Has a heavier bill than male Red-fronted Antpecker and has different habits.

Distribution

Tropical Africa
Western Africa: Senegambia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, DRC and Angola
Eastern Africa: Kenya and Uganda
African Islands: Gulf of Guinea Islands, Sao Tome, Principe

Taxonomy

Subspecies

Nigrita bicolor has three subspecies:[1]

  • N. b. bicolor
  • N. b. brunnescens
  • N. b. saturatior

Habitat

Lowland forest, mangroves and secondary growth.
