Scaled black and brown above, dark-streaked neck and breast, white eye-ring, pale belly and sides with dark chevrons, dark wings, white trailing edges, orange-red legs, short red, black tipped bill.

Behaviour
The diet includes invertebrates.
The nest is a shallow depression on the ground, concealed near or under vegetation; the male builds the base and the female lines it with twigs and leaves. 3-5 eggs are laid and incubated by both parents for 22-25 days.
