Identification

11·5–12·5 cm

  • Pale eye ring
  • Moss-green upperparts
  • Olive underparts
  • Pale yellow belly

Distribution

Central and South America:
Central America occurs only in Panama,
South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Taxonomy

Formerly placed in the genus Chloropipo.

Subspecies

Four subspecies are recognized1:

  • C. h. suffusa:
  • C. h. litae:
  • Tropical western Colombia to north-western Ecuador (south to Pichincha)
  • C. h. holochlora:
  • Tropical south-eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador and eastern Peru (south to Junín)
  • C. h. viridior:
  • Foothills of south-eastern Peru (Cusco and north-western Puno)

Habitat

Lowland and foothill moist and wet forests.

Behaviour

Diet

Not a lot is know about their diet; but thought to be mainly insectivorous although they are occasionally seen in fruiting trees.
