Identification

36 cm

  • Red frontal band
  • Greyish-blue cheek and chin
  • Yellow on remainder of head
  • Black mottling on nape
  • Green upperparts and tail

Distribution

Tasmania and Bass Strait islands.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Subspecies caledonicus and brownii are not generally recognized[2].

Habitat

A variety of forested and woodland habitats and gardens.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of seeds from eucalypt, myrtle and sassafras.
