• Lilac breast and face
• Blue crown, wings, tail and belly
  

Sexes are similar
Juvenile is a drabber version of the adult.

Distribution

Iraq to Thailand.

Taxonomy

• C. b. benghalensis:

• Eastern Arabia to north-eastern India

• C. b. indicus:

• Southern India and Sri Lanka

• C. b. affinis:

• North-eastern India to south-central China, northern Malay Peninsula and Indochina

Habitat

Open country with some trees.

Behaviour

Diet

Diet includes large insects, lizards and frogs.

Breeding

It nests in a lined hole in a tree or building, and lays about 3-5 eggs.
