Identification
It has a light cream coloured throat, breast and belly and a brown head and can be easily confused with the Tasmanian Thornbill or scrubwren.
Distribution
Taxonomy
Two subspecies usually recognized:
- A. m. magna in most of Tasmania
- A. m. greenianus on King Island
The scientific name was formerly spelled Acanthornis magnus
Habitat
Rainforest and wet eucalypt forest.
Behaviour
The diet includes insects and other invertebrates.
It breeds from September to December, laying 3 white lightly spotted eggs in a woven, domed nest.
