Gypopsitta vulturina

Identification

The head is devoid of feathers.

Distribution

Brazil south of the river Amazon.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species after Bald Parrot was split from Vulturine Parrot. The generic affinities of this and similar species has been much discussed, but the South American Classification Committee has recently recommended that it will end up in genus Pyrilia; it has also been placed in genus Pionopsitta.
