- Pionopsitta vulturina
Identification
24 cm. Green tinged blue, especially below, olive-brown chest, bright red underwing coverts, yellowy under-tail with a blue tip, un-feathered blacki and orange-pink head, bordered by a broad yellow collar of feathers, followed by a second black collar, short, square tail, green/grey bill with yellow spot at base of upper mandible, orange eye. Juveniles have a feathered greenish head.
Distribution
Brazil south of the river Amazon.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species after Bald Parrot was split from Vulturine Parrot. The generic affinities of this and similar species has been much discussed, but the South American Classification Committee has recently recommended that it will end up in genus Pyrilia; it has also been placed in genus Gypopsitta. As Clements and Howard & Moore agree on Pionopsitta the Opus places it in this genus.

Habitat
Humid forests.
