Linnéi = Mr. A. W. Malm's 1877 futile attempt to re-name some Birds! (1 Viewer)

Here´s a post with something like a record of Scientific Synonyms! Some of them is not present (today) in the HBW Alive Key …

They´re all from the Swedish author August Wilhelm Malm, and his Göteborgs och Bohusläns Fauna, Ryggradsdjuren 1877 … meaning something like "The Fauna och Göteborg and Bohuslän [Western Sweden], Vertebrates".

This book was concluded and published in preparation of the 100th Anniversary of the death of the Famous Carl Linnaeus (1707–1778, Knighted Carl von Linné 1757 – the latter name being the most frequently used in Sweden) … and what better a "Birthday Gift" to The Great Naturalist than simply re-naming some of his, Linnaeus's (von Linné's), own species – thereby commemorating him even more …!?

These are clearly attempts to apply a rule forbidding tautonyms (binomina where the generic name is identical to the specific name): in all such cases, he systematically changed the specific name and replaced it with the original author's name in the genitive case.
This rule did not survive time, hence all these names are now indeed unnecessary replacement names.

Neave lists Tarrhaleus Fitzinger, 1863 as an emendation (? - it actually looks more like a simple incorrect subsequent spelling) of Tharrhaleus Kaup, 1829 (type, by original monotypy [cited on p.134], "Accentor modularis" = Motacilla modularis Linnaeus, 1758). Latinization of Greek θαρραλέος = courageous, bold, confident.

The name in use is Prunella Vieillot, 1816, type species deemed to be the "Fauvette des haies, Buffon", but this not Code compliant ("Fauvette des haies, Buffon" is not a nominal species cited by an available name, hence not an originally included species in the sense of the Code, and not eligible to be a type species).

Though why these sylvia and hippolais (both LINNAEUS 1761)* has no priority or isn´t valid I do not know!?

*And in Linnaeus's Systema naturae 1758, See Laurent's Post No. #5.

Both names are also in the 1758 book (#7 and #9), actually.
But both are usually regarded as nomina dubia (identity unresolved).

E.g., Hartert, in 1903:
- wrote under Hypolais icterina: "Hippolais (Hypolais) hippolais (hypolais) vieler Autoren, aber nicht Motacilla hippolais L. ! " ("The Hippolais hippolais of many authors, but not Motacilla hippolais L. !")
- placed Motacilla Sylvia L. with a question mark in the synonymy of Sylvia curruca, noting: "Die Beschreibung [...] verbieten, diesen Namen auf die Dorngrasmücke zu beziehen)." ("The description [...] prohibits this name to refer to the Common Whitethroat.")
