Sunday November 05, 2006:
WILSON'S SNIPE, BEWICK'S WREN, SONG SPARROWS, DARKEYED JUNCOS,
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, and ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were seen along
Westhaven Place in Nanaimo.
The Sunday Bird Walk went to Neck Point Park in Nanaimo
Nine birders found the following thirty-six species:
PACIFIC LOON, COMMON LOON, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, PELAGIC
CORMORANT, MALLARD, BUFFLEHEAD, HARLQUIN DUCK, RED-NECKED GREBE
SURF SCOTER, LONG-TAILED DUCK, COMMON MERGANSER, BALD EAGLE,
THAYER'S GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, MEW GULL, SPOTTED SANDPIPER,
BELTED KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER,
NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVEN, STELLER'S JAY,
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, BROWN CREEPER, BEWICK'S WREN, WINTER
WREN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, AMERICAN ROBIN, SPOTTED TOWHEE,
SONG SPARROW, EUROPEAN STARLING, HOUSE FINCH, DARK-EYED JUNCO,
BUSHTITS and PINE SISKINS,

Saturday November 04:
A WILSON'S SNIPE has been visiting a back yard in the 500 block of Primrose
Drive in Nanaimo.
Two SHORT-EARED OWLS and nine TRUMPETER SWANS were seen at the
Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo.

Thursday November 02:
Two TRUMPETER SWANS landed on the Beaver Pond on Brookwood Drive, off
Rutherford Road in north Nanaimo.

Wednesday November 01:
Large flocks of HOODED MERGANGERS, BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, AMERICAN
WIGEON and MALLARDS were seen at Hemer Provincial Park in Cedar.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was perched in a tree beside Highway One, just north of
Duncan.

Tuesday October 31:
A BARRED OWL was being mobbed by NORTHWESTERN CROWS AND
STELLER'S JAYS in the 1200 block of Rose Ann Drive in Nanaimo.

Wednesday October 30:
GOLDEN-CROWNED, FOX, SONG and LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, DARK-EYED
JUNCOS, SPOTTED TOWHEES, AMERICAN ROBINS, NORTHERN FLICKERS,
NORTHERN SHRIKES, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES WESTERN
MEADOWLARKS, COMMON RAVENS, GREAT BLUE HERONS, NORTHERN
HARRIER, RED-TAILED HAWKS and two SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen at the
Nanaimo River Estuary in south Nanaimo. The two SHORT-EARED OWLS put on
aerobatic displays and "return fire" to the COMMON RAVENS and scared up six
WESTERN MEADOWLARKS.

Sunday October 29:
A WILSON'S SNIPE has been sighted for the last two days in the Coombs area.
