3/26/09 - Kipuka Puaulu (1 Viewer)

The pervasive wetness continues. I don't even bother trying to get up early in the morning anymore because the rain is in command morning, noon and night. I didn't have the energy for the leeward side of Mauna Kea, and I wanted to practice my distance estimation more than slog the hot dusty road up the mountain. However, I made what proved to be the wrong choice. I tried to go the leeward side of Kilauea instead, to kipuka puaulu which is usually a dry spot, but unfortunately it was raining steadily there. I walked the loop trail and explored one of the side trails into the forest, while keeping an eye out for new ferns. After a couple of hours I abandoned the day entirely and returned to the coffee shop in Hilo.

Yay! Dirtbath!
