Early fog soon cleared to give a cool, sunny and calm day.
At Ashleworth there was little in the way of wildfowl, there being only 5 Teal and 8 Canada Geese around the scrape. As the mist was clearing, it was very pleasant and unexpected to see 7 Bewick's Swans overfly to the south in the direction of Slimbridge. These will be some of the first of the migrant swans to the Severn Valley.
Around Colways Farm there were a Grey and Pied Wagtail and Meadow Pipit. Of note were several flocks of Fieldfare each of well over 100 birds. There was certainly some movement of this species today. They seemed to be everywhere, in most of the hedgerows as well as passing over.
While trying to locate the shrike seen previously, I was standing in Stank Lane scoping the hedgerows when the sound of a bird passing close, was made by a Sparrowhawk flying up the lane between the hedges. A flock of 11 Long-tailed Tits and a pair of Stonechats on Hasfield Ham concluded the morning and the shrike was not seen by me although it was logged as being present today for its 4th day.
