Despite the bad weather and snow at the end of March spring is now in full swing in Hungary. It is the time of Spring in Hungary.
Greyleg Geese are swimming with their first gooslings and wetlands are full of migrating ducks with large flocks of Wigeon, Pintail, Shoveler and Teal, among them Garganey, Gadwall and Ferruginous Duck in smaller numbers. Black Storks and Spoonbills are also back and waders feed in the marshes. Ruff and Black-tailed Godwit form the majority but Marsh Sandpipers and Spotted Redshanks can also be seen.
The first Lesser Spotted Eagles were reported and Pallid Harriers are on the move with daily observations from the east of Hungary.
Many songbirds are back and in full song, while Ring Ouzels migrate to the north stopping in Hungary for a few days. The last Alpine Accentors and Redpolls were reported before they left for the Tatras or further north.
March and April are also good to observe northern birds such as divers and grebes in their breeding plumage as the migrating birds that were wintering in the Adriatic Sea stop for some days in Hungary.
