A Most Maritime Gull-The Kittiwake (Larus tridactyla)

The Kittiwake is a hardy gull and breeds on northern and western coastal cliffs. It can also endure an ocean environment for months and the associated gales and rain of winter.

Inner Farne Island is a good place to observe and watch them at close quarters. There was the echo of their very distinctive calls from the cliff ledges on the island. I was very aware of their presence just by the call alone.
