Andean Cock-of-the-rock  (male)
Andean Cock-of-the-rock (Rupicola peruvianus saturatus) There are four described subspecies. Three have been recorded from Peru. This subspecies, saturatus is found from eastern Cusco Region southward. The nominate subspecies and subspecies aequatoralis occur north of the Cusco Region northward along the eastern slope of the Andes. The males of both of these subspecies are bright orange opposed to being red. Photographed near Cock-of-the-rock Lodge. Eastern slope of the Andes in a pristine cloud forest in the Kosipata Valley at 1600 m (5250 ft) elevation in the Rio Madre de Dios Region. Humid Subtropical Life Zone. The species is sexually dimorphic, the female lacks black wings and a silver or silver/blue lower back and is a maroon-brown or orangish-brown color.

Eastern slope of the Andes in a pristine cloud forest in the Kosipata Valley at 1600 m (5250 ft) elevation in the Rio Madre de Dios Region. Humid Subtropical Life Zone.
