Chilean Flamingo by Jonathan Rossouw
One of six flamingo species, this is the Chilean flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) and is widely distributed throughout much of southern and western South America. Jonathan Rossouw photographed this bird on the Bolivian Altiplano, a high-lying plain otherwise known as the Andean or Bolivian Plateau, which harbors numerous massive salt pans and shallow lakes where these and other flamingo species, along with many waterfowl species, flock to feed and breed during times of good rains
