The wetland was dedicated 1998. It was a token effort to reclaim a small portion of the 95% lost from the Central Valley to flood control, agriculture, and development. The area was considered a prime candidate for wetland restoration as it is an important overwintering grounds for waterfowl and migrating birds. Currently, the wetlands is being used by white pelicans, avocets, stilts, sandpeeps, rabbits, otters, beaver, coyote, fox, herons, egrets, and various ducks. A rare visit from a Franklin's gull has been the latest stir, but unfortunately he did not show up for me.
