Devastated Area, Mount Lassen

Mt Lassen is the worlds largest plug dome volcano. Made up a dacite lava, Lassen rises above the surround area at 10,475 feet. Native Americans called it "Fire Mountain", "Little Shasta", or "Water Mountain". The last eruption occured in 1921 and Lassen has be quiet ever since.

Great combination of green/grey/white/blue here! I love the effect, letting alone the beauty of this mountain. I didn't know you get snow in sunny California! Here in Spain we have the image of California = beaches (in the coast) + deserts (inland). Great to see different habitats than those! Thanks for this beautiful and instructive post!
 
Ooh! We also have pockets of rainforest as well, but they are not of the tropical variety. Sometimes the snow is so thick the park does not open until July, but not this year.
