Fig Tree - 5

Fig Tree - 5 (Eudynamys scolopaceus)

The Fig Tree - 5

To show how the tiny
Thick-billed Flowerpecker
was feeding on ripe figs ...
I will
have to show some other
birds that were feeding
in the same tree ...

Please note here that
the fruit ( fig ) is nearly
sessile ( with a
very small stalk ... )

There were bigger bird
feeding in the
canopy as well ...
One of them was

Asian Koel ...
( Eudynamys scolopaceus )

... the ripe succulent
figs were
irresistiblly inviting ...

The image shows a male
Asian Koel
plucking out a fig ...

The fruit instead of
coming off whole was
torn close to its
cap joining it with
the branch ... about
10-15 percent still
sticking to the
branch ...
This will become clear
in the next image ...

They're really quite agile for a large bird, aren't they.

Another great 'fig tree' image - many thanks Alok.

I've corrected the date in that other picture... silly me!!
