Fluorescent flutterby's (Gonepteryx maderensis)

We were trying to spot the Trocaz pigeon in the Laurel forest in Maedira. We did see many pigeons. However they were so well camouflaged and so far away that I decided not to attempt a photograph.

Then we spotted three flourescent dots moving above the forest canopy. These butterflies were about 100-200m below where we stood in the Laurel forest. Found out they were Madeira Brimstone butterflies (Gonepteryx maderensis). They were so bright that despite distance and darkness of the valley, I could get some photographs.
