I was surprised to learn they're rather common where I live (Norway), but not so commonly seen. Once I learned what their song sounds like, however, I've been able to find a few. Mostly I see them when I'm in the UK visiting my daughter. They're much bolder in the UK, or less shy. Perhaps because they don't have as much space to get away from humans and much of their favorite biotopes are in public parks.

it was (and still is I guess) a common bird in Belgium during my younger days, nowadays here in Southern France not common at all
