Hovering Hawker

Hovering Hawker (Aeshna mixta)

Captured this Migrant Hawker in full flow after 2 hours of trying different species today - not to mention all the other times I have tried and failed. I can only be certain that I have got the right species as I caught it at rest too and it was wearing the yellow triangle. Chuffed to bits with this picture - I've tried hard enough to get a shot!

 Oh, yes, many congrats, this is very difficult and your attempt turned out superbly, Paul, what a brilliant reward to your effort!!! :loveme:

Wow, superb picture Bhoggy !! Glad you finally got one in flight, know you have been trying since you got that wonderful lens.

Yes, I know just how hard this type of shot is, I tried for hours with a Emperor Dragonfly,
but never got a suburb shot like that, Lady luck played its part, you better do the Lottery.

Thanks for the comments all. Yes, lady luck was watching over me - 1 out of I don't know how many shots, but well worth the effort. Can't wait for my next opportunity to try - don't ever give up!

What struck me when I got this photo on screen was the positioning of the wings - being a bit of a simpleton I had always assumed that front and back wings moved up and down together - obviously not!
