Malachite Kingfisher juv. - Alcedo cristata (Alcedo cristata)

This is one of the more common kingfisher species in South Africa and certain places provide perfect opportunities of photographing them.

This is one of 3 juvenile birds that were seen on the day. The adult bird is brighter in colour and has a bright orange/red beak.
Scientific name
Alcedo cristata
Beautiful portrait capture. The only species here usually begin with their breeding around March/April.
