Neoscona crucifera (Spotted Orbweaver) (Neoscona crucifera)

This spider was at the National Zoo in Washington DC -- but it was IN the zoo, not OF the zoo. This was on the walkway outside the Bird House where I overheard a kid mentioning a spider to his father.

This shot is a reminder to keep my eyes open for critters that make their home at the zoo, but are not part of the exhibits.
