Parrot Crossbill (Loxia pytyopsittacus) (Loxia pytyopsittacus)

One of the group of Parrots that bred successfully for the first time in the Netherlands this year (2014). This image was taken at a pool of water that had formed in the path through the forest where the birds had been regularly seen. Much to the delight of the patiently sitting crowed some 20 birds came out of nowhere to drink the water from the puddle.

A fantastic study; the focus, bokeh, pose, setting and detail are all excellent.
