I have never heard of this species, but what a stunning animal....Well done.

Thanks. Pronghorns are the only surviving species of American Antilopes. Though they are not closely related to the African Antilopes. They are in their own family: Antilocapraidae. Though they were hunted to the brink of extinction, they have made an extrodinary recovery, at least in the north-western part of their range. An interesting aspect is that they are in fact the second fastest land mammal living today, only baeten by the African Cheeta. The reason for this is probably that they co-evolved with the (now extinct) American Cheeta. The Cheeta may be extinct today, but the speed the Pronghorn evolved during this evolutionary arms-race is still there.

Superb shot! They are fascinating animals, spooky too; since they are open praire animals getting a good shot can be tough! As it happens I snapped a group yesterday near Sonoita AZ, just 10 mi North of the Mexican border. I had hoped they were rare and endangered Sonoran pronghorn, but they were not. Their range does indeed extend throughout North America, from Mexico to Canada. My shots aren't so clear but I'll post a couple here for comparison. Thanks for sharing!
