Puffins of Inner Farne

Puffins of Inner Farne (Fratercula arctica)

I had the opportunity to visit Inner Farne off the Northumberland Coast with no members of the public present. The only people present were staff who worked there, several people I was with and a small team of RSPB employees.

Wandering around the Island I came across these Puffins who seemed quite relaxed and happy. The environment around them was alive with the sound of sea birds and the associated smell that goes with such a colony. It feels like you are in another world when you get so close to sea bird populations. A little surreal. It was a relief to be here after experiencing sustained attack by Arctic Terns a few minutes earlier!!!

Nice picture and a vivid description,I could all but smell those surroundings!!:t:

I could not resist taking this photo and wanted a group shot not just a Puffin in isolation. I sat there, relaxed watched and waited for the opportunity. The moment came and I got the shot in the can!!

If you get hold of a good field guide that discusses the bill of a Puffin you may be able to work out how hold some of these birds are.

Thanks to you all for your lovely comments.
