Red Wattled Lapwing
This morning (5/9/10) during my half an hour of walking along the
ponds of Patuli, Kolkata, India, I heard and then saw 3 Red Wattled Lapwings
flying from West to East (approximately at 0715 hours). Their calls
and silhouette were distinctive and having spent many years in western
India where these lapwings are quite common, I do know a RWL when I see/ hear one. However, in Kolkata, this
was my first sighting of this species. this image is from my June trip to Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Thought I'd share.
Habitat
Scrubland, Open plains, Lawns
Location
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
Date taken
2 June 2010
Scientific name
Vanellus indicus
Equipment used
Pentax Kx, Pentax DA L 55-300mm
Nice capture!!!
One of my favourite lapwings. It's call sounds like someone asking (in a shrill voice) -"what are you doing?"
