Ringed Plover of Rocky Shore

Ringed Plover of Rocky Shore (Charadrius hiaticula)

During a days stay on Inner Farne Island I watched an Arctic Tern on its nest. I turned to my right looking across a rocky shore and noticed this solitary wader, a Ringed Plover wandering about on rocks. I saw a Turnstone earlier in the same area of shore.

Nearby a large colony of Arctic Terns dominated the scene and a shortwhile later I saw two Roseate Terns amongst the same birds!!!

Substantial numbers of Ringed Plover were seen at high tide the next day foraging on the sands and saltmarsh on the approach to Lindesfarne.
