Strong-billed Woodcreeper *DB (Xiphocolaptes promeropirhynchus)

One of the more impressive and easy to identify woodcreepers, this was photographed at La Planada reserve in the Narin~o region of Colombia, a place which until fairly shortly before our trip had been out of bounds due to rebel activity.. Sadly, shortly afterwards the security situation had once again deteriorated, with fighting nearby between the army and guerilla forces.

Excellent shot! I've been wanting to see this bird in neighboring Panama for a while. Thanks for posting, Robert. You're a brave man, birding in Colombia. My wife doesn't allow me to go anywhere near the Panama-Colombia border...
