pontic gull
pontic gull is just another name for caspian gull. i prefer it for the (yet) unaccepted ssp. 'ponticus' named after "pontus euxinus" - latin for black sea, the western form of caspian gull. this is the same (male) individual shown in the other image - "caspian gull perched". the all white tip to p10 and also a large white mirror in p9 tells that this bird is fully adult (5 years old or more). see the high bulging chest and flat belly. from this angle eyes look almost totally dark (irises actually are dark ochre).
