sparrowhawk at night !

This bird was hawking the pied wagtail roost in Albert Square Manchester using low ambient street lighting. I watched it for about half an hour till the wagtails (300-400 of them) decided they had enough and went to St Ann's Square. I was amazed at how agile the sparrowhawk was so late in the evening or that it was around at all.

Not a brilliant shot , I know, but I imagine the opportunity is very rare indeed.

Take it Adi, I would mate, lucky you, I cant get anywhere near one of these guys, good un mate.

A good shot for those conditions - the low lighting makes it look fierce and determined. :t: An opportunity well taken, for an excellent behaviour shot! I wonder if the cold weather you've been having over there has made this bird's usual prey a bit scarce, forcing it to hunt at night?

The lighting makes it look really moody and a bit spooky! Cool shot! :t::t::t:

Fantastic capture and even more fantastic to hear he was hunting at that time of the day. Great photo and information,thanks1!!!

I can't even get them during the day and here you are getting them at night!

Good shot to mark such an unsual spectacle, I bet it was thrilling.
