This is my rogue male. The original photo was quite grey so decided to just enhance that a little in photoshop to create a different look

Great capture Annette. He certainly looks more alert than he did yesterday morning, when I was at the Doffcocker. I got the impression that this was an aged bird and not feeling 100%. It was like he was floating around there in late retirement. What you think Annette?
 
It's a beauty Annette, I do miss the Grebes in our local pond this year, hope they return next year. Lovely post :t::t::t:
 
He often lays like that John. This is a submissive posture in order to keep low as he knows the other grebes are nearby (even when they arent) A couple of winters ago I watched a young grebe doing the same thing over several days. The grebes were ice locked and it kept low almost the whole time to keep out of their sight.
This bird can be very alert when he wants. I have seen him dance with the female and moves quickly enough when the other male comes along
 
Beautiful capture, Annette, lovely pose, light, and great exposure, well done. The chest and neck are always tricky to expose for on these birds, for me at least.|=)|
