Lakescape - 62 : Death of A Wetland - 2

... This image shows
just a small
part of the wetland ...
...that has been usurped.

... May be just 20 by 20
meters ...though not very
picturesque , it holds
14 species of birds ...
some of them coming from
sub-Arctic and Temperate
parts of the Globe ...

..and today I'm going
to name them ...

1.Little Egret
2.Great Egret
3.Indian Pond Heron
4.Black-winged Stilt
5.Red-wattled Lapwing
6.Great Cormorant
7.Indian Shag
8.Little Cormorant
9.Common Redshank
10.Spotted Redshank
11.Greenshank
12.Ruff
13.Northern Shoveler ( female )
14.Darter or Anhinga

...and there were some more
quite close ...
... but could not be
accomodated in the image ...

A Paradise Lost ...indeed.

Wow, a Paradise lost, indeed. My heart goes out to you and the birds! Fantastic picture showing what greed and short-term goals usurps. Be brave and steady my friends.

Sorry to hear this quite nice volume of birds are going to lose their home, super group capture Alok.

Great detail on a great mix of birds, Alok. These images will serve as a reminder of what used to be; as soon there'll just be man-made structures.

One thing I find interesting; If it wasn't for the Internet, many of us wouldn't be aware of such "Developments". So there's a chance, albeit a slim one, that those in power won't continue to get away with this in future. Perhaps in future, Alok, you could utilise the power of the Internet, and start a petition to stop the destruction of habitat. It may not do any good, but it has to be worth a try.

How sad to lose such a community of bird life. It is a wonderful image Alok and you sure do know your birds. Thanks for sharing them.

It is ironically very sad that your images portray what I could only dream of and yet 'we' are intent on destroying it. I have been amazed at the variety and wealth of bird life you've experience in India, Alok. I genuinely had no idea. Thank you. I only wish I could do something to prevent the losses.
