YELLOW WERBLER

YELLOW WERBLER (: Dendroica petechia)

Personal Observations:
The photograph shows the Barbados race, of which has been named by some local birders as the GOLDEN WARBLER and has been given the scientific name Dendroica petechia petechia. This vivid energetic little bird can be seen frequently in mangrove areas, its flight is quick with short stops for hopping from limb to limb; the male is more vividly colored than the female and immature. The population of this bird is declining in Barbados and it is considered endangered; the reason for its decline is due to loss of its nesting habitat as a result of urban/suburban development; another possibly being the arrival of the SHINY COWBIRD that may make the YELLOW WARBLER host to its young as it is a brood parasite, to this date however I have not seen the YELOW WARBLER feeding an immature SHINY COWBIRD.
