Very interesting shot, the fish is in the presentation position, facing length wise the wrong way. Kingfishers always swallow their food head first because of the spines on the dorsal fins.
This could of course mean that he had yet to turn the fish. More likely at this time of year could be an offering for his female companion, in which case the food is facing the right way.
Great image & great behavioural capture IMHO.

This was indeed offered to the Female who was sitting across the other side of the pool. Too many branches in the way for a shot of that though... this time! Apparently later in the day another turned up (not sure whether it was male or female) which led to some rather heated action up and down the path between the canal and reservoir.

Next trip I hope to try and get another shot of the pair together.

Super sharp image, very nice indeed! Just wish I had somewhere locally to see them with a decent chance of photography!
 
Thanks everyone. Hoping to see some juveniles too later in the year, so will be making regular trips back to the same spot.
