This shot was taken while on a night drive, the bird was roosting on a tree stump in the middle of a pond.

Well done. I would have been happy to get this during the day. Presume you used a flash? and why are they called Black ducks?

Gosh!!! That's a very attractive duck, isn't it Gareth..... and a lovely picture you've got of him too.

It isn't a species that we see coming in too often - many thanks for showing him to us lad.

Jaysan, yes, I did use a flash with an extender. I presume it was called a Black Duck because it does look black when seen in the wild as it tends to favour flowing streams with a lot of plant growth along the edges which provides a lot of shade which make it look very dark. It does however like coming out into the open water in the evenings.
