That's a great picture of your gate-crasher Lionel - sorry though, I don't know what it is.

Hi Lionel, I think I have seen the very same insect land on my French window two weeks ago. I have been trying to identify your insect. I think it is one called Western Conifer Seed Bug ( leptoglossus occidentalis),native to North America but now present in Europe. It is also called stink bug.
