We motored on up the lane to the next territory. It wasn't far. An eagle was perched atop a small island. He watched with interest as our guide held up a mackerel and tossed it into the sea. The eagle sailed out from the island, circled past the fish a couple of times, then returned to the island. Our guide guessed that two or three things weighed in on the eagle's decision: 1) he wasn't all that hungry, 2) it was just too darned hot, and/or 3) there wasn't enough wind to help him get airborne again after the grab. There was, in fact, no wind at all - absolutely mirror-smooth sea - and like Red Kites, White-tailed Eagles don't like flying low without wind to help them up again. And yes, Mo, I realize I could have pushed the exposure up a bit, or lightened the shadows (if I had a program installed that had that option), but we will eventually get to some pics with better exposures, I promise.
