Snowy Plover
Taken during our CBC (Christmas Bird Count) at Limantour Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore. The Snowy Plover, Charadrius alexandrinus) is a threatened species on the West Coast of the U.S., due to human and canine use of beaches, as well as predation by increased numbers of ravens, etc. Efforts are being made to stabilize the situation by protecting their habitat during breeding season.

Excellent shot! Yesterday for the first time I noticed ravens attacking shorebirds at Shoreline park and it was not a pretty sight...
