My First Common Eider

My First Common Eider (Somateria mollissima)

I was in Cape Cod for the weekend and saw my first Common Eiders. I believe this is an eclipse male (he has white on his back). I would love to see and photograph one in breeding plumage, so I'll head back up there later in the year to see if I can see them again.

Absolutely beautiful image Chrissie, I love everything about this un. I have always found these birds difficult to get near, if they are on land, they soon take to the water and head off.
 
Breath-taking! What a beautiful action shot. I love the way the colour of the eyes mirror the glorious deep blue of the water. Really lovely. What a great first experience of this bird.
