Cuban Parrot (Amazona leucocephala leucocephala)

This distinctive near threatened parrot has a patchy distribution in Cuba. Formerly found throughout the main island, this species is now confined to limited areas of dry forest much of which has been cleared for agriculture. This species is also popular in the pet trade. This is the nominate race from Cuba characterized by a more extensive rose-red throat patch and white crown. Three other subspecies are found in the Bahamas and Cayman Islands.
