White-fronted Parrot (Amazona albifrons nana)

Most of the parrots were heard calling loudly in flight, but were extremely difficult to locate when perched in the trees where their green coloration blended perfectly with the leaves. I was happy to capture this one sitting in the open. Females, such as this, differ from males in lacking red on the wing and tail. Three subspecies range from Mexico to Costa Rica. Birds in Belize are the race A. a. nana. They are similar to the nominate race from Mexico, but average decidedly smaller and have more yellow in their plumage.
