Something downy this way comes

A scruffy young bird that showed up at my feeder in November. I caught it here mid-crunch after it finally succeeded in breaking open a black oil sunflower seed after much effort. Those specks are little bits of shell flying around. Anyone have any idea what bird this is? It's hard to tell given that it's little more than a brown ball of down with a beak, but I'd guess golden-crowned sparrow or California towhee, since I've already identified juveniles of all other regular species at the feeder!

Great capture and an excellent photo of this female House Finch? Regardless, its a great picture with great timing to catch it with this broken sunflower seed. Great job.

Does look like a house finch to me, but in California there may be other possibilities. Great shot anyway.
