Square-tailed Kite (Lophoictinia isura)

For Mike across the paddock.

Taken back in 1994, I thought I had a role of 36 mostly of Black Kites, with a few kestrels and a couple of Black Falcon shots (the latter of most excitement to me). It wasn't til I got the film back and checking it out while sitting at a bus stop that I thought this was an odd looking Black Kite. -It was taken in the midst of numerous Black kites and didn't think of it as special when clicking the shutter.

Taken with a Pentax Z-20. My first 'Electric camera' with magical autofocus and a ...motordrive! -After 10 years of trying I started getting shots of the front of birds and not just my usual blurs of fleeing backsides...It seems so ancient now.

Hi Stoop,

Sounds as if you aren't missing the"good old days" of manual focus, dull Kodachrome or B&W films and one shot at a time. You should have been trying to photograph when I (Hans) started photographing birds in 1954,but we had no vision then of what is possible now. Thanks for posting the oldie !
