Sulfur Works 2
This section use to have boardwalks that allowed you to get close to the fuming fumeroles, and the boiling mudpots, but new fumeroles developed underneath the boardwalk and made the structure unsafe. This is how it looks now after all the boardwalks have been removed.
Bummer! I would love to have one more chance at a close up of a mudpot, but there are still other spots in the park that are still active that need documenting, and there is alway a new vent opening at sulfur works every year. For volcano fans: Mt. Tehama was a composite/strato cone volcano.

ayasuda, I haven't been up to Lassen since they removed the boardwalks. You might like Lava Beds National Monument up in Modoc County. We discovered the area a couple of years ago and it is well worth the trip. Lots of caves, lava tubes, craters, etc. They have a great interpretive center as well.

Lava Beds is another favorite of mine and I'll be going there at the end of the month. I hope you were able to go through some of the public ice caves before they closed for renovation. My next volcanic quest will be crater lake and the lava tubes of Bend, OR. I wonder of cave pictures qualify as landscape.
PS. If you like to take butterfly pictures, Lassen is at it's peak. But don't wait to long, the wildflowers are about half way through the season.
